Society.
Remember that time when you were young, you’d done something really, really bad, you go to take your punishment like a man……Alas, you were met with the heart dropping phrase “I’m not mad, I’m disappointed.”
That. That right there. That sums up my feelings for today’s society.
I’m not mad, I’m disappointed…
We are in an age in which the only nature that interests teenagers is that of Twitter. Hey, at least they know the sound a bird’s supposed to make. Not that they will get to experience that first hand sat locked down to the computer 24/7, perhaps if they crack a window, you know, for fresh air. How do parents ground their children anymore? They don’t go anywhere. They sit in waiting, like predators, for Harry Styles to announce that ‘he’s just made a sandwich and it was really good’. Or god forbid a Justin Bieber tweet, life will cease to exist for days on end after they reel from the affirmation that ‘like he like totally really appreciates that we like follow him and like totally love us so frikkin much like oh my god I love Justin Bieber I can’t believe he tweets’. No wonder child obesity is soaring. If the media concentrated more on representing a healthy and knowledgeable society than the current status of Katy Perrys marriage the next generation could instil hope into our ever degenerating image of the future.
The future is not the same.
The rise of the Keyboard Warriors has begun and there’s no turning back. Everybody has an opinion on everything. Everybody knows better than everybody else. Yes, everybody has a right to their own opinion, that’s not to say that anybody else cares. We don’t engage in phone calls, meetings, open debates - no - we comment, we tweet, we like, we report as spam, we thumbs up or down, we share. Faceless warriors argue point against point from topics such as race to which song kicks or sucks most ass, which evidently are now deemed equally as important wouldn’t you have it. There’s no such thing as personal taste anymore, there’s only one genre that you’re allowed to like – all of the others are wrong. Please, search the comments of any song on YouTube, tell me I’m wrong (as I am only so sure that some of you will feel the need to do so.)
Who do we blame? You know the answer to that already. The media. Everybody’s worst best friend. The oxymoron that is mass media has ambushed, abused and aggravated society more than any war ever could. Read any newspaper, watch any news reading and you’ll find a short segment of “real” cough censored cough world news, showing us the situation at war and how we’re doing such a great job out there all mixed in with the life and lies of the most in the loop celebrities, soap storylines and the latest footballer’s court case. How many footballers have been charged with sexual assault now?
War? What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.
I’m going to wrap this up, I could go on all night but mostly for the reason that it’s 4:00am and as proven by half of the essays for my degree, these delirious states produce many a made up word. Albeit they sound amazing at the time they have absolutely no meaning whatsoever. So to save you from witnessing the murder of the English language I will bid you goodnight.
My first blog, possibly ever. I love to write and i’m just looking for a place to do so. My life ambition is to become a writer; a journalist. Before you say it yes, I do want to be a journalist with integrity and before you say that no I don’t think every journalist started off that way. You think Perez Hilton wannabe’s and the man himself wanted to write for world peace and justice? Me neither. Although not technically journalists i’m sure you’re capturing the stereotype I was aiming for.
A little about myself…
My father massively influenced my love for music. When I was going through the adolescent phases of “moshers”, “chavs” and “indies”, and for lack of a less pedantic phrase when I was trying to find myself. Anyway, my first memory of my dad and I was listening to him play the Beatles classic “Norwegian Wood” on his ovation guitar. Now this wasn’t an early memory I must have been around 9. What I do remember is that it exhilarated me. Not long after I bought my first guitar and started to practice. Now for a young child I wasn’t bad. I have this obnoxious trait, if I get something wrong the first time I will do it over and over and over until I get it right. So as you can imagine learning the basics didn’t take me long. Getting to the point, music has been and always will be one of the most important parts of my life. You can’t go a day without coming across it in some form, whether it on an advert, the soundtrack to a film, blasting out of the kid on the buses headphones or some guy humming as he walks along the street. My point is music is ubiquitous, it’s everywhere and we couldn’t live without it. How many times have you heard people say “this album helped me through my divorce?”” or “the song helped me through the death of my mum”? Where would we be without it? The modern days poetry. There are those that understand music and there are those that don’t. Its not about what you hear, how it sounds, its about how it makes you feel and how it helps to sculpt you as a person. That’s what music is about for me.
Music is not my only interest. My personality is somewhat addictive. And by somewhat I mean very, this is not a bad thing. To me this simple brings out the dedication in me. I will stick with something through and through if it means a lot to me, I am determined to make a change. I graduate in July 2013 and I really want to use this space to think about my life choices and how I can utilize my determination and dedication for good. For peace and justice.
My blog will involve all aspects of my life. It is not intended as a professional account, simply personal. A place to vent and practice my writing.
